Interested in joining the Affect and Emotion Lab?
Undergraduate Students at UTK
Being a Research Assistant (RA) provides lab-based experience critical to exploring psychology as a career. RA positions at UTK are competitive and our lab requires an application as well as an interview. Please note that no prior experience/skills are necessary (and please do not let this deter you from applying!), as you will be able to learn throughout your time in the lab. RAs generally help with tasks such as stimulus coding, stimulus generation, running participants, and more. RAs learn a great deal about the basic elements of the research process and can, therefore, earn class credit (PSYC 489).
We recommend that if you're interested in going to graduate school (e.g., applying to a Ph.D. program), you get involved in research earlier in your undergraduate career (during your first or second year).
What's next? If that sounds like something you are interested in and a commitment you would have room for in your schedule, please fill out our interest form below.
We are currently accepting undergraduate RAs for Spring 2024 and Summer 2025.
Graduate Students
Application information can be found at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville's Department of Psychology program website.
If you are applying for the Experimental (Social) Psychology Ph.D. program and are interested in our lab, please feel free to email Dr. Jeff Larsen directly ([email protected]).
Note: Dr. Larsen will be reviewing Ph.D. applications for the upcoming cycle in Fall 2025 (as well as Garriy Shteynberg, Lowell Gaertner, and Michael Olson).
